Last week I helped out at Aiken Elementary for "Prime Time Reading Day". My activity involved technology and used the site Voki.
With Voki you can create a talking Avatar (human or animal) and give it a voice with your own speech or use text to speech.
Steps to create a Voki:
One of the limitations of the free version is after you publish, there is no way to go back and edit the original Avatar. However, there are no accounts to create. I like this program as an alternative if you do not have access to tablets for recording. It could be used for reading poetry (use the holiday avatars), for a historical character report, or for creative writing. If you choose to use your own voice, you are limited to a 60 second audio recording.
One final tech tip next week!
