YouTube has a fantastic supply of videos. Unfortunately, it is also filled with advertisements and questionable comments. Here are two tools you can use to safely share YouTube videos with students.
1. Copy and paste any YouTube web address into the box
2. Click "Generate Safe Link"
3 Click "Take me to the safe view"
4. Copy the new, distraction free, web address.
Pros: You can edit additional items like title, background, and movie length
Cons: In the Safe Link, video cannot be viewed full screen (see bottom image)
You can make the video larger by using the tip from last week and zooming in!
1. Go to Quietube link
2. Drag the button onto the toolbar (just like you would for Pinterest)
3. Go to the desired video site
4. Press the Quietube button
Pros: Once the button is on the toolbar, this is fast! You can still show the video full screen, customize the background light or dark. This also works for Vimeo and Viddler videos.
Cons: There is still one ad at the bottom of the screen. I have never seen one that is inappropriate. Reloading the page a few times often makes it go away.
Happy Safe Sharing! I'm attending my first technology conference today in the Pittsburgh area. Hopefully I'll come back with next week's Tuesday Tech Tip :-)
