This idea comes from one of our 3rd grade teachers!
Do you want to mix up your morning warm up activites? Do you want something new to challenge your students? Check out the online version of the SET Game. The set game gives students 12 cards with varying colors, shapes, patterns and amounts. The goal is to create groups of 3 cards where each characteristic is all the same or different. There are always 6 sets to be found, and each day a new puzzle is posted. Game Rules
After you find all 6 solutions, you can enter a site ID and be entered in a weekly drawing to win a SET puzzle deck of cards. Also, the site keeps track of how long it takes to solve the puzzle; your class could keep a running list of the top 5 times. I would suggest working on this as a whole class or in groups or partners, especially when first introducing the game to students. The game also provides a great discussion about problem solving strategies.
If your school has iPads, the daily puzzle is also available as a free app. The puzzle on the app is different than the web based version.
Have a great Spring Break!
